The Enterprise of Brockton, Mass. www.enterprisenews.com BROCKTON — Michael Ambrose sat in the back seat of police cruiser No. 204, cell phone in hand, and began to dial as police searched his East Bridgewater home and garage for bombs. The person he was calling, according to a prosecutor and court papers, was the man who told police that 41-year-old Ambrose was making pipe bombs. Ambrose "was yelling at him for turning him into the police," according to paperwork filed in Brockton District Court. Ambrose, of 188 East St., East Bridgewater, is now facing witness intimidation charges in addition to 35 counts of possession of an infernal machine, and possession of a Class B drug, a single tablet of OxyContin. He was arraigned Friday in Brockton District Court, one day after his arrest on bomb charges, and a hearing is set for Tuesday on whether he is too dangerous to be released on bail. Police found 35 pipe bombs in Ambrose's home Thursday, forcing authorities to cordon off the area and order neighbors from their homes as a precaution. There were eight pipe bombs in plain view in his garage and 27 more in a blue-and-white cooler in the garage, according to court paperwork. Defense attorney John Creedon said his client, who works as a landscaper, had an interest in chemistry and just liked making them (pipe bombs) but it "was not a Columbine situation." Police obtained a search warrant for the house — then arrested Ambrose — after the owner of an Easton gun shop, James Sheppard, told East Bridgewater police that he saw a pipe bomb at Ambrose's home last Saturday when he went there to buy a children's quad runner vehicle. He told police he saw a PVC cylinder capped on each end with tape and a wick coming out, Assistant District Attorney Shelby Smith told the judge at Ambrose's arraignment Friday.
