The crash happened Tuesday night as the helicopter was transporting firefighters battling a wildfire in Trinity County, California. LOCATION]NINE PEOPLE WHO WERE RIDING ABOARD A CHOPPER LIKE THIS ONE ARE FEARED DEAD AFTER A CRASH TUESDAY NIGHT IN A VERY REMOTE PART OF THE SHASTA-TRINITY NATIONAL FOREST IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. [Notes:SOT --VOICE OF FAA SPOKESMAN] The helicopter flew into the area to pick up a group of firefighters and it crashed after picking up the firefighters. [Notes:GFX -- BULLET POINTS]THE FAA SAYS THE CHOPPER WAS CARRYING 11 FIREFIGHTERS AND TWO CREW MEMBERS WHEN IT WENT DOWN UNDER WHAT IT SAYS ARE "UNKNOWN CIRCUMSTANCES" -- AND THEN CAUGHT FIRE.FOUR PEOPLE WERE AIRLIFTED TO HOSPITALS WITH SEVERE BURNS.THEY SAY THE RECOVERY EFFORTS HAVE BEEN COMPLICATED BY THE REMOTE LOCATION OF THE CRASH SITE. AND SOME OF THE FIREFIGHTERS -- INCLUDING THOSE IN THE HOSPITAL -- WERE EMPLOYED BY A CONTRACTOR CALLED GRAYBACK FORESTRY -- BASED IN MERLIN, OREGON. Aug 7, 2008 - We are praying for your dad and the other surviviors, along with the families of the guys who did not survive...My son is working on that fire...We have been praying and thinking of them all since the fire season arrived, best wishes for your dads speedy recovery!!!! Take Care...

Aug 8, 2008 - I was on the complex until Monday of this week. Tragically we had another fatallity about two weeks ago (Andrew Palmer). All my fellow firefighters stay safe out there and pray for the families that lost a loved ones.

Aug 8, 2008 - my husband was at that complex and works for grayback his crew was supposed to be on that flight thank the he was not but i am saddened for the families who lost their loved their loved ones i pray for their families but in the same breath i thank the lord for my husbands safe return home.
