May 31, 2008 - Your german needs some serious work. And so does your voice. Sorry.

May 31, 2008 - I am always working to improve my skills, both from a diction stand point and from a vocal standpoint. Might you have specifics that you are referring to?

Jun 4, 2008 - I think this is a pretty good performance of this piece. A few things: I don't care for the hand gesture at the beginning, because you are supposed to be the maiden at that point....and she is certainly not reaching out for death. I highly suggest some vowel modification up high until you can get the open-ness that you have in your lower register up high. The mixed vowels have too much tongue and not enough lip shape for my tastes. Take that D at the end. You're a man. Do it!

Jun 4, 2008 - Well, in what I was abel to attain from me research of this piece, Schubert intended for the beginning chords to represent Death's arrival in the scene. This, in my opinion, probably would have taken the maiden by surprise, therefore, I used that gesture to represent Death coming to collect the maiden, just before she realized he was there. Whether or not this was exactly what Schubert had intended, I will never know, but it did help to define the characters for me.

As to the low D, I rarely have one and when I do, it is usually a result of morning voice, which obviously was not the case here. Thanks for the comments.
