It's just like how North America is made up of the US and Canada. I think people got offended because, generally, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese people dislike being put together as the same ethnicity. (My guess is because of the amount of history b/w the three.) And Vietnam is not bad. No country is bad. There's just the difference of point of view.
