Jim Varney talks about how the Ernest craze is sweeping the nation. You see him get to comment on one of his funniest commercials...the merry-go-round spot where he falls off and the camera comes back around and he is still laying on the ground.

May 30, 2008 - That was kinda sad when she asked Jim Varney if he thought Ernest would ruin his stage career, because it actually did.
DiskoDRU Says:
Jun 21, 2008 - Quite contrary actually. Varney got other roles, he played Jed Clampett in the beverly hillbillies, for one. Also Disney invited him to do voice overs for Some movies like Toy Story, and Atlantis.

Jun 21, 2008 - Yeah, you're right, I'm just saying his Shakespeare career, which was his original passion, never stood a chance after the introduction of Ernest.

Jul 3, 2008 - Would have loved to see him in a dramatic role... I think he would have been great!!

Jul 8, 2008 - He did get an offer to be in a Broadway play about a year after this interview. Roger Miller offered him a role of Pappy Finn in the play BIG RIVER. The play was quite a hit and won many Tony awards. I believe the reason he turned it down because he had just committed to filming "Dr. Otto And The Riddle Of The Gloom Beam." No, it wasn't Shakespeare but it was Broadway...this role could have led to more Broadway roles perhaps. It's hard to tell how much he regretted that decision.
MattLevitt Says:
Jul 10, 2008 - Really? I never knew that. That's pretty cool.
DukeOfUranus Says:
Jul 16, 2008 - Indeed, he can pull off drama. He would be AWESOME in westerns. He has those Lee Van Cleef hawk-like nostrils and piercing eyes. Do I even need to mention his voice? It really is a shame that he wasn't cast as a villain in a western.
