Video Clip from "THE PREVENTABLE HOLOCAUST". Featured is a documentary made by the Mormon Church in conjunction with the U.S. Surgeon General's office about the hazards of the use of tobacco products, which result in significantly more deaths each year than illegal drugs and AIDS. Video clip from "Alternative Views". Producer: Frank Morrow. Production Company: Alternative Information Network. News; tobacco; documentary; Tobacco, the Winnable War; Mormon Church; Surgeon General. A recent Zogby poll found that 45% of respondents support a ban on cigarettes. In practical terms, what does this mean? Not much, because public officials -- swimming in money from the tobacco lobby, and not wishing to alienate the 45 million Americans who identify as smokers --certainly won't put an end to the cigarette industry. Does anyone else find it odd that when 45% of Americans support banning cigarettes, 42% support banning abortion, and 39% support a federal ban on same-sex marriage, the highest-polling ban is the only one that hasn't produced any referendums? More than 400,000 deaths in the U.S. alone each year are from smoking related illnesses. Why would someone even pick up a cigarette without considering the effects it will have on him or her? Cigarettes should be illegal because cigarettes are a powerful and addicting drug that are very harmful to the people who smoke them, the people who inhale second hand smoke, and the environment. Drugs are bad for anyone who smokes them. A Cigarette is a type of drug. Cigarette smoke contains 4,000 chemical constituents and more than 40 of them are known to cause cancer in humans. Some experts say that it's usually not the nicotine that kills but these other chemicals. A few of these chemicals are cadium, a highly poisonous metal that is also used to make batteries, formaldehyde which is used to preserve dead bodies, and lead which is a highly toxic metal. Some studies say that the nicotine in cigarettes is as addictive as cocaine and heroin, which leads to the theory of why it is so hard for addicts to stop. With all these deadly chemicals, why would someone even think of smoking cigarettes? These 4,000 deadly chemicals are more than enough evidence to make cigarettes illegal. The most addicting chemical is nicotine. Co-hosts: Frank Morrow and Doug Kellner. Researcher: Mike Jankowski. Technical adviser: Brian Koenigsdorf. May 16, 2008 - why are you asking my that ??? It's a video on smoking right and banning smoking correct????

rosaryfilms Says:

May 16, 2008 - teddyinajapan, the video is entitled, "Cigarettes - The Preventable Holocaust 01 Anti-Smoking Video" and 02.

teddyinajapan Says:

May 16, 2008 - I have a question for you do you think smoking should be banned ???

rosaryfilms Says:

May 16, 2008 - teddyinajapan, yes. My grandfather and father died from it.

teddyinajapan Says:

May 16, 2008 - so why do you think that it should be banned Your Grandfather knew it was bad for him and he kept smoking .... I mean it says clearly on the pack .. Everyone knows it can kill you. Its not anyones fault besides the person who smokes. I mean you think that ciggz should be banned??? why, so they can go on the black market.

teddyinajapan Says:

May 16, 2008 - People should have the right 2 choose for themselves.

rosaryfilms Says:

May 16, 2008 - teddyinajapan, you miss the entire point. My father was addicted. I am sure my grandfather was too. Do you understand what it is to be addicted to a very powerful drug?

teddyinajapan Says:

May 16, 2008 - Yeah that is personal choice ... Its nobody's fault besides the person or persons who get addicted.. I mean that is why there is something called "Self Responsibility." I mean what would banning ciggz do??? besides make a new cartel over night ... The federal government should have no saying in this although I think if individual states wanted to ban that is fine but that is up to the people not the federal government. People have the right to kill themselves !!!

teddyinajapan Says:

May 16, 2008 - It says right on the pack !!! Everyone knows they can kill you, but people still smoke. I don't smoke myself but i think if people want to smoke go ahead, we are going to die anyways.

rosaryfilms Says:

May 16, 2008 - teddyinajapan, they started smoking at a young age and made a bad decision. Then it was too late -- they were addicted. If cigarettes had not been legal, perhaps things would have been different.

teddyinajapan Says:

May 16, 2008 - I mean making bad decisions is part of growing up but listen People know it can and will kill you the message is out .. Yet when this stupid people get cancer they want to sue the tobacco companies like they did not know. I mean they're are tons of programs to help the weak people stop smoking .. I mean if someone told you if you don't stop doing something or you will die soon and you dont stop then that is your fault ... addiction or death choose ... Its not that hard

teddyinajapan Says:

May 16, 2008 - "these people" typo =)

teddyinajapan Says:

May 16, 2008 - I would love to talk to you by voice one day I would just love to understand people like you I dont understand why drugs are illegal why why why i love to debate you by voice on skype if you have time I would love to have a friendly debate ...

soulinite Says:

May 16, 2008 - this is the kind of garbage that makes smoking cool.

vikingscool Says:

May 17, 2008 - I glad Marijuana are illegal, because I read the news about scientists said that can lead to heart disease and/or depression. Thanks God for marijuana is ILLEGAL!

CatSquall Says:

May 17, 2008 - So you just ignore the important lessons we learned in the 30s? History is an important tool toward improvement, Rosaryfilms. Prohibition didn't work, it fails horribly, and caused way more worse problems, than the simple moral and health worries you have. You cannot outlaw something like this, and you never will. If the individual wants to use something on themselves, neither you, nor anyone else, has the right to tell them no.

rosaryfilms Says:

May 17, 2008 - CatSquall, so according to you, meth should be legalized?

ChoofMonster Says:

May 17, 2008 - The figures have improved for Australia since this was made; 33,000 smoking-related deaths in 1988 (see part 1) down to 19,019 in 1998, estimated to be around 11,000 now. Of course, one death is too many but people are quitting and, more importantly, not starting to smoke. The swamp behind the minister is actually an artificial lake, which had been drained and refilled prior to the bicentennial celebrations and new parliament building opening in 1988.

CatSquall Says:

May 17, 2008 - Let me first say, that's a totally unrelated question. But you'll find my answer to that in your newest video.

CatSquall Says:

May 17, 2008 - Nevermind, it apears to be gone. I guess the answers you were getting, from asking such a silly question, didn't support what you wanted, huh?

teddyinajapan Says:

May 17, 2008 - rosary, What do you think we should keep sticking meth addicts in Jails ???and also sticking drug addicts in prison where they go in and out in and out like a revolving door The Drug czar loves to talk about treatment but it stays the same. Treatment is needed. . Everyone is treated the same Im talking about where people go to the same rehab and help centers as the rich people do, not drug courts and NA. We should get smart on drugs instead of being tuff LET'S GET SMART!!!

knifeguy5 Says:

May 17, 2008 - if you make smoking iilegal it will turn in to another prohibition where thousends die because of a stupid law

ChoofMonster Says:

May 18, 2008 - The reason that cigarettes remain legal is entirely political: no party can afford to lose the support of smokers, even where this represents only a small part of the demographic. Raise the drinking age from 18 to 21, lose the youth vote - similar impact. It can be done, but only under a dictatorship; Bhutan (a monarchy) banned cigarettes, and has a thriving black market with smuggling and corruption going unpunished.

ChoofMonster Says:

May 19, 2008 - The video is about tobacco, not marijuana. There was no powerful lobby for cannabis when it was banned, because very few people used it as a recreational drug until after prohibition; every year, Big Tobacco spends billions of dollars on research and covert advertising trying to prove that smoking is a 'choice' and not a cause of illness and death. If everything that might cause depression or heart disease was made illegal, that would require banning avocados, bungee jumping and relationships.
