Here is a quick vid about why we should pass the noise ordinance in Downtown. It will make Oly a better place for living and enjoying. Must fixes are very easy and simple (keeping the door shut is free). If you would like more info on how they can lower the noise for cheep or free send me a message.

Jul 7, 2008 - Great work. I was so hoping someone would do this sort of data collection. Thanks for posting this.

Jul 8, 2008 - Have you tried checking the noise levels outside of "The Vault" and "Charlies" on weekend nights?

Jul 8, 2008 - You are the one who chose to live in an apartment in the middle of a city, if you can call Olympia a city. If you don't like losing sleep at night, get some earplugs, or move into the surrounding neighborhoods. I lived in Denver before moving here, which is a real city, where a noise ordinance like this would have been scoffed at. CITIES ARE NOISY, thats common sense, and proposing this ordinance is going to smash business around here, as well as spirits. Stop acting like you are 70 years old!

Jul 8, 2008 - The beauty of your comment is that I have lived downtown in real cities, Seattle, Portland and Atlanta and guess what? All three have noise ordinances. Also, Denver has a noise ordinance!! I did choose to live downtown and I love it here. I did not choose to have a venue in my bedroom though. Big and little cities all over the country have noise ordinances and they still have great music scenes. If we want our city to grow we need to work together and that is all I'm asking for.

Jul 10, 2008 - Move to the suburbs into a house with a basement, walk down the steps into the basement, find a closet, go inside put in some plugs, sit down and stay there.

Jul 30, 2008 - Huh, when I first saw this I was thinking to myself, "Why would anybody WANT a noise ordinance?" But now I understand, here in Alabama we don't really need it, and I like to listen to my system that I paid good money for within reason. I can get a 500 dollar ticket just for driving on the empty highway in the middle of the day.

Aug 5, 2008 - So, a little more background. Let's start with the obvious. The door of this bar is being opened and shut. This indicates that the bar is trying to keep the door shut. Not possible to keep the door shut when someone is walking through it. They walk through the door to sit on the patio of the bar, a pleasant place to socialize in an outdoor setting. The patio has screened walls & a canopy roof which minimizes the noise from conversation. Seems to work according to sound meter. Response? Thanks.

Aug 6, 2008 - You are exactly right the door does need to open and SHUT. That is what the video was showing that when a door is shut they comply. However, the door is often propped open and never shut. The second half of the video shows what happens when a doors is left open. Also, the noise ordinance as proposed says sound must be at a more then 60 dBs for at least 15 mins. So you are right doors do keep noise out and I would like to see them shut more often.
