This is a short clip from an interview that I conducted in Fort Wayne, Ind., on April 12, 1999, with Elma ("Pem") Farnsworth, widow of Philo T. Farnsworth—the man often credited with inventing electronic television. In the interview segment, Mrs. Farnsworth explains why the kids at her son's school didn't believe that her husband had anything to do with television. Mrs. Farnsworth, who died in 2006, worked alongside her husband for many years, and she was in the San Francisco lab with him when the first electronic television picture was transmitted on Sept. 7, 1927.
