This is the perfect solution showing you how to use your favorite "G" Nikkor lenses (that doesn't have an aperture ring) on a 30+ years old manual focus Nikon 35mm bodies (such as Nikon F, F2, F3, FM, FE, etc.). **REMINDER!!** With the adapters, you might will lose 10% of your lens' focal distance.

Lilkiwiguy87 Says:

May 18, 2008 - Hey, hey, play nicely. :) The 14-24mm f/2.8G is $1,799.99 ($100 cheaper at B&H but always run out of stock).

May 18, 2008 - Thanks for showing this. Recently became a subscriber to your channel. Just bought a new D80 w/18-135mm lens. My father HATES digital cams and still enjoys shooting w/Nikon 35mm. He has a manual 100-300 mm lens (Quantaray) that I want to borrow. Question: when I put it on the D80 body, I get this "EE" blinking in the top display. How do I solve this so it allows me to shoot w/this Quantaray lens. Any helps is appreciated...THANKS!!

Lilkiwiguy87 Says:

May 18, 2008 - Joey, the "fEE" appears on your top LCD panel, it tells you either one of these: 1) You need to turn the aperture ring all the way to minimum aperture (F/16, F/22, or F/32). 2) The lens is not useable on D80. 3) The contacts between D80 and 100-300mm can be dirty or damaged. 4) If it is a FULL manual focus lens, you will need to use "M" mode (Manual) and you will be able to control the aperture (on the lens) and shutter speed. Hope this helps. :)

May 19, 2008 - If somebody needs lens back-compatibility, get Pentax :) Even on latest K20D you can mount ooooooooold manual K-mount lens or M42 lenses with cheap adaptor. In similar way, most of new FA lenses can be fitted on old film bodies. And some very old manual nikon lenses can be fitted on pentax bodies too :D :D :D If film, then medium format! :)

Lilkiwiguy87 Says:

May 19, 2008 - Uh, yeah? About any camera can do that (new body + old lens). This video shows you how to do the opposite (old body + new lens). I have a plenty of the earliest manual focus F-Nikkor lenses that works beautifully on Nikon D3. :) All I have to do is mount the lens, put in MF, then set the program for Manual and shoot away.

xmeda Says:

May 19, 2008 - Any? :D Nope. If you want to use older lens on canon, always adaptor is needed.. and even more, in some cases even modern lenses refuses to work on modern bodies and needs to be upgraded ( common issue with sigma on Can) and nikon.. ok.. again adaptor used in this video. Why it cannot be mounted directly in mount? :D With pentax you can, because K/KAF/KAF2 are compatible :) Only problem can be if somebody wants to use electric-only aperture lens on manual body or some "cropped" DA lenses.

Lilkiwiguy87 Says:

May 19, 2008 - I suggest you to watch the video again and very carefully... The 14-24mm f/2.8G doesn't have an aperture ring so it is not possible to stop the lens down to F/4, F/8, whatever without an aperture ring. This adapter can stop down the lens for you when using a cable release. Push in until you get the depth of field that you like, lock the knob, then set the shutter and fire away with the lens "manually" stopped down.

xmeda Says:

May 19, 2008 - okidok :)

Jun 21, 2008 - 1. All Nikon lenses (even manual lenses) can be used even in Program mode for Nikon D200/D300/D3 etc..for other cameras there wont be metering but u still can mount it 3. Unlike Canon, all Nikon lenses can be mounted on modern bodies..because the physical mount is identical..Canon's EF and EF-S has a diffent physical mount so it wont fit in the first place correct me if i'm wrong

Lilkiwiguy87 Says:

Jun 21, 2008 - Where's number 2? :) I'm not sure why you're telling me this...? "G" Design lenses cannot be used on Nikon F, F2, or F3 because lacking of aperture ring so this "adapter" allows you to stop down the lens anywhere from F/2.8 to F/22 by using the shutter cable release. Just push it in for specific aperture then lock the knob then shoot away. :) Yes, ALL Nikkor lenses (well, expect rangefinder lenses) have F-Mount. Canon lenses are entirely different so it's just crazy.

gr2k Says:

Jun 27, 2008 - number 3 is a typo..should be 2 :) yea i meant all F-mount lenses can be used on D200/300/3 (cameras in that class)...though ur method shows how gielded lenses can be used on Nikon F cameras..brilliant =) yea Canon has serious fun changing their lens mounts...from FD to EF to EF-S lol

gr2k Says:

Jun 27, 2008 - i think he means any NIKON lens (Nikon F-Mount is the only lens mount since day one for Nikon SLRs) can be used on modern bodies..the earlier Non-CPU lenses can even be used in Aperture Priority mode for the D200/300/2X/2Xs/3... while Canon has went from FD -> EF -> EF-S..unlike Nikon, Canon completely changed the physical mount so you can't even mount it without an adapter let alone use the lens' features

Jul 17, 2008 - Can you do the opposite of that? Like put an old, film lens, on a D40 ?

Lilkiwiguy87 Says:

Jul 17, 2008 - No special accessories is necessary because all you have to do is to focus the old lens manually and set the aperture on the lens manually.

IdiotsGon3Wild Says:

Jul 19, 2008 - But I tried to put an old 50 - 200 mm film lens on my D40 and I wouldn't fit.

Lilkiwiguy87 Says:

Jul 19, 2008 - If I remember correctly, there's no 50-200mm lens by Nikon - only 55-200mm. Sounds like you tried to mount a 55-200mm lens by these manufacturers: Zuiko, Olympu, Canon, Pentax, and Mamiya. You will need a film lens with Nikon-F mount (not Nikon-S) to fit onto your D40.

IdiotsGon3Wild Says:

Jul 19, 2008 - ohhh, maybe it was a 55-200 mm. It was my friends, so I can't remember exactly, I think he had an old Like F2 or something.
