This pair of loons has been at this lake for several years and is used to sharing the area with humans to some degree (there are campsites along the shore, but only on the opposite side of the lake from where the loons nest). I was keeping a respectable distance while I was following them, and though they weren't visibly upset by my presence, they were keeping a watchful eye on me. When I left them to paddle back toward the shore, I noticed they began following me, just as curious about me as I am about them! But I smiled and bid them farewell, and left it at that. We all need to remember to respect and admire the awesome loon, but also keep our distance and not harass them, or they will leave their favorite nesting area to try to find someplace more private.
